About Amblongus
Amblongus Books opened its doors in December 2021, launching to a post-pandemic world unaccustomed to in-store shopping. Over the years, Amblongus has grown into a space for quiet reflection, and a safe, welcoming haven for anyone who loves reading.
At the time we opened, we were Chester’s only second hand bookshop. Whilst we have been joined by excellent additions like books on the walls and Bookingham Palace / Vinyl Ritchie, our collection of rare, antiquated, and often strange books remains a unique offering among Chester’s historic city centre.
On our Shop page, you can see the categories and collections we offer, and most of the books available in the bookshop are similar to these. However, as mentioned on our homepage, most of our stock never makes it online, where we showcase our rarest and most interesting volumes. In the bookshop, you will find paperback fiction, books for children, collectable non-fiction, foreign language texts, and a massive variety of other books, pamphlets and publications.
As well as offering unique books and a friendly welcome, Amblongus also hosts guests looking for charming accommodation right in the heart of vibrant Chester.
